Every year the Council of ESCI awards all original research articles published on European Journal of Clinical Investigation (ESCI) in the previous year. A careful review of both Clinical and Basic/Translation original research article published in this time frame (November to November) with focus on: study design and novelty, technical merit, advance in the research field and interest for readers. All members of Council are in charge of a multi-step manuscript evaluation.

Two best research articles (one Clinical and one Basic/Translational) are finally awarded in an official ceremony during the Annual Scientific Meeting. Winners are required to attend the meeting and have a ten-minute talk that summarizes key findings of the awarded studies.

Each winner receives a  prize of € 500 + Travel and 2 nights Hotel and Registration for the ESCI Annual Scientific Meeting attendance,
