Dear Colleagues,
I proudly announce that the ESCI Annual Scientific Meeting 2014 will take place in Utrecht, The Netherlands. It is a great pleasure to host this congress in Utrecht, the city where ESCI was founded in 1967 by professor Albert Struyvenberg. I hope that the founder of ESCI is able and willing to welcome us in Utrecht next year. It is also a great pleasure for the Central Office of ESCI, which is also located in Utrecht, to welcome you. The previous scientific meeting held in Utrecht was in 2004. This time the meeting will be organized in the historic center of Utrecht, at the “Academy building” of the University of Utrecht.
Utrecht is a great city, located in the heart of The Netherlands, home to approximately 300,000 people of which 70,000 are students. The center of Utrecht is characterized by canals and typical buildings surrounding these canals. I can recommend you a boat trip through the canals. It is also worthwhile to climb the largest tower of the Netherlands; the “Dom” tower is 112 meter high and allows a fantastic view on Utrecht and its surroundings. Utrecht has plenty of nice pubs, restaurants, trendy shops and museums. So besides your scientific activities, Utrecht is a very nice city to comfort your stay during a couple of days.
Amsterdam is located only 40 kilometres from Utrecht and is easily reached by train. The distance to Schiphol Airport is 47 kilometres. There is a very convenient train connection to Utrecht.
We are all looking forward to meet you at the 48th Annual Scientific Meeting of ESCI in Utrecht, The Netherlands, 30 April- 3 May 2014.
With best regards / Hartelijke groet
Hendrik Nathoe,
Secretary Treasurer ESCI
