Eligibility

Every year a commission composed of the ESCI Council members and the Young Research Council review the best original articles published in EJCI during the previous year.

The considered time frame is from November 1st to October 31st of the year before the award ceremony.

All the articles published online during this time frame are screened by the commission.

All the eligible articles are divided into two sections: basic/translational science and clinical science. The two sections are evaluated separately from each other, in order to have one awardee for each section.

Selection procedure

The procedure is composed of composed of two phases:

  1. The articles are assigned to different commission members according to their background and expertise for the initial screening. Each member scores the articles based on criteria of novelty, relevance and scientific rigor. Two best articles are selected by each member for the following phase;
  2. The articles selected during the screening phase are scored by the whole commission and those receiving the highest ranking are awarded.

The first authors of the awarded articles are invited for the awarding ceremony that will take place during the Annual Scientific Meeting (June 3rd-5th, 2026 NOVA Medical School, Lisbon).
