Call for Young Researchers Council
The European Society for Clinical Investigation (ESCI) Young Researchers Committee (YRC) aims to support basic, clinical and translational science, fosters networking and serves Young European investigators (PhDs and/or MDs) in order to shape their future as professional researchers.
Goals
- to draw the attention of young investigators to basic, clinical and translational research and promote and increase their participation and contribution in training to the ESCI educational activities and meetings;
- to strengthen the link between young investigators and senior researchers in different fields;
- to foster collaborations and networking among young investigators;
- to disseminate important findings from basic, clinical, and translational research across the European research community.
Applicants
Young career investigators working on basic, clinical or translational science in Europe at the time of application, who are younger than 36 years in the year of the election, who are highly motivated and have made a considerable contribution in the research are eligible. Applicants must be ESCI members at the time of application.
Applicants must submit:
- a CV including the 5 most important publications in the past 7 years (preferably as first/second/last or corresponding author and no more than 2 review papers);
- a one-page motivation letter explaining in detail how the applicant could enhance the ESCI YRC activities based on his/her expertise; a support letter by the Candidate’s chief/employer;
- a support letter from a Senior ESCI councilor could be optionally included).
Time frame
application and elections The YRC member elections take place every two years before the ESCI Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) that is held in May/June every year. Results are communicated before the ASM of that same year. The newly elected members start their mandate during the ESCI ASM of that same year.
Evaluation
A committee composed by the ESCI YRC members, the ESCI President, and will evaluate the applications.
Election of candidates will consider:
- gender balance;
- country balance;
- inclusion of different areas of expertise;
- basic/translational and clinical research balance.
Members of the YRC
- one Coordinator nominated by the ESCI President among the full members in the first election and thereafter by the 3 full representatives (i.e., the oldest YRC members);
- Junior members (i.e., Members who are in the first two-year period within the YRC);
- Full members (i.e., Junior member who have spent already two years in the YRC);
Length of the mandate
The YRC members serve for a maximum of four years, including two years as Junior members and two years as Full members. None of the members can be reelected for another term unless the ESCI President and the whole Council propose a waiver for unusual events to be fully motivated.
