Dear ESCI Members, Dear Friends, Dear Colleagues,
The European Society for Clinical Investigation (ESCI) hopes that you are doing well in these difficult times.
We wish to inform you that, after careful consideration of currently available information related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ESCI Board has decided that the 55th ESCI Annual Scientific Meeting 9-11th June 2021 will be held in a totally virtual format since our utmost priority is the health and safety of attendees and the patients they serve. Meantime, we are already planning the 2022 “post-COVID19” ASM in the presence of all the attendees.
This year the ESCI ASM will take advantage of all possible technological platforms to support the idea that Science, Research, and solid friendships can be resilient, and have no distance-related limitations! The ASM will be delivered through a flexible and dynamic internet platform that will include a mixture of pre-recorded and live presentations, will allow to connect chairs and speakers to discuss the talks and inspire new research directions and collaborations, and will provide educational opportunities and meet-up opportunities.
We will also feature pre‐recorded short and flash talks from abstract submitters and, as in our previous virtual event, all abstracts submitted to this virtual edition will be published in a special issue of the European Journal of Clinical Investigation. To increase accessibility, all presentations will also be available to registered delegates after the meeting.
The diverse and exciting program of the Virtual Meeting 2021 ‘The Micro Me’s: Exploring Microbiota in Health and Disease’, will gather expert speakers, chairpersons and panelists to deliver a program that covers a range of hot topics regarding the role of microbiota in the different organs, from a fundamental to a clinical point of view.
Besides, different symposia are included, focused on topics such as: Mitochondrial Biology; CardioVascular Disease; Metabolism/Lifestyles/Hepatology; Bioinformatics/Machine Learning in Biomedicine; Regenerative and Genomic Medicine; Models of Age-associated Frailty/Interventions by Regenerative Medicine; Nephrotoxicity/Nephrology; other topics of Fundamental/Clinical/Translational Medicine.
ESCI is committed to continuing our strong tradition of bringing the scientific community together, across geographic and interdisciplinary boundaries, and to build bridges between fundamental science and clinical practice while contributing to the formation of young physicians and fundamental researchers.
Please note that the abstract submission is now open. We encourage your submissions and look forward to your active participation in this exciting 3 day live virtual meeting. Now, more than ever, we must drive science forward and improve biomedical advancement.
Take care and be safe,
Gemma Vilahur, Piero Portincasa, Paulo Oliveira
